General

Are your CVs ATS friendly?

All of our CVs/resumes are created with ATS in mind and we follow industry best practice to ensure that all the information included in your CV/resume will be correctly processed by recruitment software. We also know that it is ultimately a human being who rejects and shortlists CVs/resumes and these people should always be your primary audience. There is lots of misinformation about ATS and we would advise you to be wary of anyone who is claiming that your current CV/resume is being ‘rejected’ by ATS as this is not wholly accurate.

What currency do you charge in?

Because we work internationally we charge in USD. Our payment processing is powered by Stripe and most international credit and debit cards are accepted.

What countries do you work in?

We have lived, worked and recruited internationally and understand what it takes to be hired by top organisations from all over the world. We work with clients globally, and because all of our consultations are completed online, we are in no way restricted geographically.

Do you guarantee that I will get a job?

Every job search and application process has a multitude of variables, therefore no career services business can ever offer you guarantees. We do, however, guarantee that we will treat you as an individual offering you our personal investment into your project and our commitment to the outlined process. Your satisfaction is paramount to us.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?

All of our sales are final and we work with you until you are satisfied with the outcome.

What is the difference between a CV and a resume?

Whilst they have different histories, today, the terms CV and resume are used interchangeably and refer to the document you submit when applying to a job. This document is essentially a sales tool which outlines your relevant skills and experience for the position you are applying to. Generally, the term CV is used in the UK and countries where British English is spoken, whereas resume is used in the US and countries where American English is spoken. However, in the US, the term CV is used to refer to a longer document that details a complete work history, qualifications, publications and other relevant information. This type of longer document may be requested in academia and some other select professions.

What is a LinkedIn Top Voice Award?

Every year LinkedIn publishes a list of content creators which it recognises as driving today’s professional conversations. To compile this list, they use a combination of qualitative and quantitative signals — including engagement (including reactions, comments and shares across each member’s content); posting cadence; and follower growth. Where did the name The English Meeting Room come from?

When we founded The English Meeting Room our aim was to support non-native English speakers to succeed in the international business world where English is the language predominantly used through the job search process. Hannah is qualified to teach English as a foreign language and we wanted to use this skill to empower job seekers. Over time, our influence and reach has grown and we now work with clients from all over the world, both native and non-native English speakers, to succeed in the international job market.

Why is there often a wait for a consultation slot?

Our focus is on quality rather than quantity. Because of this we take on a limited number of clients, clients who we treat as individuals, work closely with and give our full attention to. Many CV and resume writing platforms will offer you faster turnaround times at lower prices, however, this is not how we work. Our bespoke and unique approach means that there may be slightly longer wait times. We work predominantly with professionals who are pre-empting a career move and have time on their side, however, if you require an expedited service, this can be requested and will be considered at an additional cost, dependent upon availability.

What industries to you cover?

We work with professionals across all industries. However, we recognise that some roles are very niche and specialised and that you may need a CV/resume writer who uniquely understands your industry and job role. If you are unsure whether we would be the best fit for you, then please get in touch with us. We will always give you our honest feedback regarding how we can help and will direct you to seek out someone specialised in your industry if we think that is the best approach.

What is ATS?

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System. These systems are used by many large organisations and most recruitment agencies to store and track applicant details and CVs/resumes. When applying for roles online, it is quite normal for your CV/resume to be processed and stored in such a system. These systems allow your CV/resume to be searched and scanned for keywords and phrases that match job opportunities and some software will also rank CVs by relevance. Typically, ATS will not reject your CV/resume, however there are certain formatting standards that enable your document to be more accurately processed by this software.

How does your CV writing process work?
  • Service selection: When you purchase one of our CV packages you will be asked to view my consultation planner and reserve an appointment slot that works for you. Our consultation will take place over zoom or a similar video conferencing platform.
  • Consultation: Our consultation is an opportunity for me to fully understand your career history, successes and achievements and future career goals. My aim is to pinpoint exactly what it is that makes you unique and the value that you can bring to an organisation. This level of understanding enables me to create for you a bespoke CV/resume that tells your story, powerfully communicating your value and personal brand. These sessions can sometimes take longer than the allotted time and we recommend you book a slot at a time when you will not feel rushed.
  • CV preparation: I will create your bespoke CV/resume, at which time an initial draft will be sent to you for review within 5 working days of our consultation. You are then entitled to two (2) sets of revisions within 14 days of receiving the initial draft via email in Word format. Further revisions will incur an additional charge.

Professional CV

What if I need the project completed earlier?

If you require your first draft before the agreed 7 working days there is a surcharge of 50 USD. We recommend that you contact us in the first instance to ensure that we have availability to complete your project within your preferred timescales.

Who will be working on my CV/resume?

Hannah will be personally working on your project from beginning to end.


What if I require additional changes to my CV/resume?

You are entitled to one round of revisions within 10 days of receiving the first draft of your new CV/resume, additional revisions over and above will be charged at 50 USD per round. All completed documents are fully-editable and we encourage our customers to make their own changes where possible.


Mid-Level CV

What if I need the project completed earlier?

If you require your first draft before the agreed 5 working days there is a surcharge of 75 USD. We recommend that you contact us in the first instance to ensure that we have availability to complete your project within your preferred timescales. Please get in touch to discuss further!

We will never request your secure log on details to your LinkedIn profile, you shouldn’t give these to anyone. Instead, you will be provided with an MS Word document that contains the content of your new LinkedIn profile. This content can easily be copied and pasted into your LinkedIn profile, maintaining your security and privacy throughout the entire process.

This level of understanding enables me to create for you a bespoke LinkedIn profile that tells your story, powerfully communicating your value and personal brand. We will also discuss strategy and best practice for your LinkedIn profile and I will answer any questions you have about getting the most out of LinkedIn. These sessions can sometimes take longer than an hour and we recommend you book a slot at a time when you will not feel rushed.

 LinkedIn preparation: I will create your bespoke LinkedIn content, at which time an initial draft will be sent to you for review within 5 working days of our consultation. You are then entitled to two (2) sets of revisions within 14 days of receiving the initial draft via email in Word format. Further revisions will incur an additional charge.

Coaching

What if I want to book more than one session?

At the conclusion of each session we will ask you if you would like to book a further session. You are under no obligation to continue, if you only want one session, that’s absolutely fine. We do not offer the opportunity to book multiple sessions up-front as we find that it can be difficult to estimate how many sessions you would need and we find that most clients prefer to book just one session ahead. If you would like to book multiple sessions up-front then please get in touch with us.

Who will my coaching session be with?

Your coaching session will be with either Hannah or Joel, depending on who has the most relevant experience or insight into your industry. However, if you have a preference, please notify us at the time of booking.

How long do your coaching sessions last?

Our coaching session are 60 minutes long, the exception being our first session together, which includes an additional 30 minutes free of charge.

How do your coaching sessions work?

Our coaching sessions are built around you and your unique set of needs and circumstances. This is why the first coaching session you book with us includes an additional 30 minutes, free of charge, giving us the opportunity to get to know you and understand exactly where we can help.

How do I book my consultation?
